Freedom in Focus: Florida’s Legacy of Liberty for America 250 Exhibition

Step into history as we bring the Revolutionary era to life through a dynamic and immersive reenactment experience at Andrews Memorial Chapel.

Doors open at 11 AM at Hammock Park, where guests are invited to explore an interactive Revolutionary War encampment. The campsite will feature British soldiers from the King’s 60th Regiment and Brown’s East Florida Loyalists, offering a unique perspective on those who fought against the Patriots. Visitors can also step inside George Washington’s headquarters tent and experience daily life during the war through engaging activities, including marching and musket firing demonstrations, candle making, and period toy activities.

This special event will feature a live reenactment of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, “A Conversation Before Signing,” written by Michael Cote. Portraying George Washington is Steve Beaty, Chair of the Dunedin History Museum Board, bringing added depth and local connection to this powerful moment in history. The performance captures the tension, significance, and spirit of one of the most defining moments in American history. Surrounding the performance, guests can explore a Revolutionary War encampment with historic tents that tell the story of the American Revolution and offer a glimpse into daily life during this pivotal time.

As part of our Freedom in Focus: Florida’s Legacy of Liberty for America 250 initiative, sponsored by Duke Energy, this free community event invites guests of all ages to engage with history in a meaningful and interactive way.
