General Description of Duties

Contract Employee - 72  Hours a month

Job Summary

Reports to the Executive Director and will work as a team member with the three areas of DHM: Museum Shop, Andrews Memorial Chapel and Museum. The Educational Curator working with the History Consultant, is responsible for developing, implementing and managing the educational programs of the Museum and will include historical interpretations that are engaging for the community and visitors. Maintain DHM’s collection through the software Past Perfect.  Explore new programs and be the spokesperson for educational programming.

Duties

School Programs:  Create and manage educational programs for elementary through high school students. Responsible for DHM’s History Trunks dealing with important historical periods from early settlers, Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War I and II,  impact on the development of the City of Dunedin, the Citrus Industry, growth and development of hospitals, and its effect on the State of Florida.

Create a program for elementary and secondary grades with a weekly theme, hours to be determined and the goal is to hold a week or two week summer program.   Responsible for curriculum development and hiring the instructor(s). Note:  Initial summer program to begin in July 2026.

Programs for families: create a program or programs which celebrate important dates and people who contributed to the growth of Dunedin and Pinellas County. Recruiting and training Docents for the Museum. Overseeing historical tours of the City of Dunedin, the historic neighborhoods and Victoria Drive. Developing programs for family engagement, for seniors and age-appropriate programs. Exhibits: History Museum Exhibits: work with the Historian and/or a Curator creating and installing an exhibit by planning a program(s) for the public on the theme of the exhibit.

Collection: the Educational Curator is responsible for the acquisitions and collection care; makes decisions regarding what objects to select, oversees their potential and documentation. Conducts research with the public and community through exhibitions.

Computer: the Educational Curator is familiar with the collection management computer program Past Perfect that is currently in use at DHM. If the candidate is not familiar with the Past Perfect software must be willing to learn.

Salary & Schedule

Contract worker:  70 hours a month, hours determined by the Executive Director in conjunction with the individual hired.  May use more than 70 in one month and use lesser hours in another month.

No Benefits, such as health, retirement, paid time off are being offered at this time.

Salary:  Range $19 to $21 per hour – depending on qualifications

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree in History or similar qualifications or time spent working on educational programs.
  • Computer competent: ability to use Word, Google Docs, Exel and social media.
  • Need to become Proficient with Past Perfect, software for museum collections.
  • If possible be familiar with Graphic Design platforms like Canva
  • Need to be knowledgeable and user friendly with Social media platforms.
  • Ability to work as a Team Player.

 

Any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
