Living History Programs

History Comes Alive

Living History programs, such as the Dunedin Cemetery's "History Comes Alive", have been established for school and community participation. The program includes reinactors taking on the role of individuals buried at the cemetery who have contributed to the history of Dunedin. The reinactors dress in period clothing and display photographs and historic material related to the time period they are portraying. The Historical Society also sponsors the Historic Dunedin Cemetery Committee which has taken on the responsibility to work with the City of Dunedin in the enhancement of the historic cemetery.
Another popular living history program the Dunedin Historical Society sponsors is the Pinellas Vintage Base Ball League. Reinactors play by the rules and wear reproduction uniforms and equipment of baseball players in the 1890's. Base Ball was spelled with two words in 1890. The league is up to four teams which include the Dunedin Railers, Largo Crackers, Tampa Tarpons and Bradenton. Games are held in the open field of Highlander Park, Otten Field for the Dunedin exhibitions. Games are held on a monthly basis and are free for the public to enjoy and watch "The Way Base Ball Used to Be". The league is always looking for extra players who can contact the museum or see the web site at http://www.vbba.org/ for game schedules, information and photos. Vintage Base Ball Team
